3 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1/2 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1-1/2 c. shortening
1 egg, beaten
2 t. almond extract
Red food color

Sift flour, sugar, baking soda and salt into large bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal. Combine egg with almond extra; stir into flour mixture, mixing well and kneading gently for 30 seconds. Form into walnut sized balls. Place on ungreasted baking sheets. Dip chocstick into red food color and make a depression into the center of each cookie. Bake in 350 degree oven for 15-18 minutes. Cool and store in tightly covered container.
